Father's Day Gift Ideas

A Brief History of Father's Day

Father's Day originated with Mrs. John Bruce Dodd, who wanted to honor her own father. She persuaded the Ministerial Society of Spokane, Washington, to salute fathers in special church services held on the third Sunday of June in 1910. the custom spread throughout the United States. The idea was officially approved by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916. In 1924, President Calvin Calvin Coolidge recommended national observance of the occasion. Today Father's Day is not an officially established holiday, but it is celebrated nationally on the third Sunday in June.
